Safe Use of Garlic for Flea Deterrent

Daily Garlic Dosage for Dogs:

  • Dogs under 10 lbs: 1/4 clove per day
  • Dogs 10–20 lbs: 1/2 clove per day
  • Dogs 21–50 lbs: 1 clove per day
  • Dogs 51–100 lbs: 2 cloves per day
  • Dogs over 100 lbs: 2 1/2 cloves per day

Key Usage Guidelines:

  1. Daily Feeding: Garlic can be fed 4–5 days a week, taking a break for 1–2. It is not necessary to feed daily for this purpose.
  2. Preparation:
  • Peel and finely grate or mince the garlic.
  • Let it sit for 10–15 minutes after chopping to activate beneficial compounds like allicin.
  • Mix it with your dog’s food for easy consumption.
  1. Long-Term Use: Start garlic supplementation 4 weeks before flea season begins to build its natural repellent properties in your dog’s system.

Precautions:

  • Avoid giving garlic to pregnant dogs, puppies under 6 months, dogs with anemia, or those with autoimmune issues.
  • Monitor for signs of intolerance (e.g., vomiting, diarrhea) and discontinue if they occur.
  • Never exceed these dosage guidelines to avoid adverse effects.

Note: Garlic is most effective as part of an integrated flea prevention plan, including regular grooming, environmental control, and safe natural repellents like properly diluted essential oils.
