Nutrients When the Sick Dog Stops Eating

If your dog stops eating one of the first things we’re going to talk about is getting nutrients in them, even if you have to syringe feed them. The challenge here is calls often come to me under desperation and without supplies. So I want to plant some seeds here.

We may have to explore getting some supplements and tinctures into your dog for recovery – so some of these options may help us do that.

Homemade Bone Broth will take about 24 hours to make – but is going to be important for you to do. This is not “stock”. It is far more nutrient rich and you can customize it.
Most bone broth in the grocery will contain onions.

Raw Goats Milk: – highly nutritious and can be a complete meal for your dog for several days.

Yogurt & Honey (or Molasses) with blueberry/banana puree
Meat / Liver Puree

Baby Food: This may be a good way to experiment with some different options and not waste a lot of food. Keep offering them even if they were rejected yesterday!

Meat Only - if that’s all they want for a few days, fine. But then we need to start gradually adding in some organ / glandular, a whole-food vitamin mineral supplement, medicinal mushrooms, tinctures, etc – We can go for a few days without a full balance, but we can’t go too long. So you may have to consider some express orders if you don’t have products on hand or easy local access.

Liver Water: boiled liver, strained, feed the water.

Also explore Liverwurst.

Nutrical – a supplement

Ok, so I know many of you are not yet oily. That is to say not yet open to Essential Oils as part of your natural wellness plans.

But I encourage you to consider learning for many reasons. And I’ll be teaching more on that soon. But one of them is having access to products like Ningxia Red, and essential oils in the Raindrop Collection.

Essential oils are always the very first thing I reach for. Every Time. Then I figure out what else to do. You will see me talking about these options more often.

Ningxia Red: It’s top of the list of things I want to start getting into the dog for nutrition. The nutrients, enzymes, antioxidants, protein, amino acids, fiber, vitamins, minerals, etc make this a power-house supplement. It is without question, my first reach. I’ve overnighted bottles to people or driven it to them locally. You can add it to food, water, serve plain or syringe it in.

Raindrop: It’s the first thing I turn to for trying to detoxify the body. Yes, I want a vet Dx, but I haven’t found anything yet that would lead me to not including Raindrop. This is my go-to when we don’t know what’s wrong, and when we do.

Don’t give up – keep offering options. Keep them well-hydrated, even if you have to get your vet to show you how to do SubQ fluids.
