Mushroom Broth Recipe for Dogs

This mushroom broth recipe is designed to promote immune health in dogs. It’s packed with beneficial ingredients that support your dog’s overall wellness.

When dogs are sick, offering them broth can be a good way to keep the hydrated and add nutrients too.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup dried shiitake mushrooms
  • 1 cup fresh white button mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup fresh oyster mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional and only if approved by your vet)
  • 1 tablespoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 8 cups filtered water

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Mushrooms:
  • Rinse the dried shiitake mushrooms under cold water to remove any dirt or debris.
  • Slice the fresh mushrooms into thin, even pieces.
  1. Combine Ingredients:
  • In a large pot, combine the dried shiitake mushrooms, fresh mushrooms, minced garlic (if using), turmeric powder, oregano, thyme, and apple cider vinegar.
  • Add the filtered water to the pot.
  1. Cook the Broth:
  • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 1-2 hours. The longer you simmer, the more nutrients and flavors will be extracted.
  1. Strain the Broth:
  • After simmering, remove the pot from the heat.
  • Use a fine mesh strainer to strain the broth into a large bowl or another pot, removing all the solid pieces.
  1. Cool the Broth:
  • Allow the broth to cool completely before serving it to your dog.
  • Pour the broth into storage containers for later use. You can refrigerate it for up to 5 days or freeze it in ice cube trays for longer storage.
