If your pet needs to be on a low phosphorus diet, you’ll want to monitor the appropriate amount of liver in your recipe, and not exceed your total phos requirements.

This means liver treats may not be an option for dogs on low phos diets (Kidney issues)

Monitor the amount of copper as well in your prepared diet. Liver is rich in copper.

If you’re optimally balanced in a fresh food diet, you may be able to use chicken liver instead of beef for treats as it is much lower in cooper ounce for ounce.

Amount of Copper
Beef Liver : 2.8mg per 1 ounce of Liver – so this may be more ideal for your homemade recipes as it will be lower in calories as well to achieve the needed daily requirement of copper.
Chicken Liver: 0.1mg per 1 ounce of liver
Pork Liver: 0.22 per 1 ounce of liver
