Essential Oil Brand: Doterra

I’m still a Young LIving Gal

doTERRA is a prominent company in the essential oils industry, known for producing high-quality, pure, and therapeutic-grade essential oils. These oils are derived from various plants and botanical sources, carefully extracted to preserve their natural properties and therapeutic benefits. doTERRA offers a wide range of essential oils, blends, and related wellness products that are used for aromatherapy, topical application, and even internal consumption, depending on the specific oil and its intended purpose.

Comparison to Young Living:
doTERRA and Young Living are two of the most prominent companies in the essential oils industry, often compared for their product quality and business practices. Both companies emphasize the purity and therapeutic value of their oils. The primary differences between them often come down to personal preference and individual experiences. Some individuals prefer doTERRA’s sourcing practices and product quality, while others may prefer Young Living. It’s important for consumers to do their own research and try different products to determine which brand aligns better with their needs and values.

There is some debate and evidence that farming practices between the two companies is NOT the same, and that even in distillation processes, doTerra seems to introduce a FRACTIONAL distillation process that removes certain constituents and leaves the product appealing more to fragrance than to full constituents of the plant. In short this means, it smells better (and different than YL), and may not hold all the same therapeutic benefits.

Foundation:
doTERRA was founded in 2008 by a group of individuals who were passionate about essential oils and their potential benefits Many of these folks were executives at Young Living. The founders included David Stirling, Emily Wright, Corey B. Lindley, Gregory P. Cook, Robert J. Young, and Dr. David K. Hill. They aimed to create a company that prioritized purity, sustainability, and ethical sourcing of essential oils, as well as empowering individuals and communities through a direct selling model.

I did make personal comparison between YL and doTerra when I was exploring my options. After side by side comparisons and personal results, I chose YL.

Dispute with Young Living:
There has been a longstanding legal dispute between doTERRA and Young Living, which began shortly after doTERRA’s founding. The dispute revolved around issues such as alleged theft of trade secrets and accusations of unethical business practices. Both companies have settled some of their legal disputes over the years, but it’s important to note that these disputes have not affected the quality or efficacy of their respective essential oils. The feud between the companies is largely a matter of business competition and legal disagreements.

Safety of Ingesting doTERRA Oils:
doTERRA promotes the internal use of some of their essential oils for specific therapeutic purposes, but it’s essential to approach internal use with caution. Not all essential oils are safe to ingest, and it’s crucial to follow proper guidelines and consult with a healthcare professional or aromatherapist before doing so. doTERRA provides detailed usage instructions on their product labels and website to ensure safe and responsible usage.

Safety for Pets:
To my knowledge, doTerra does not have a pet line of products. Fundamentally, that’s ok, as pet lines are typically just already diluted for you. I see no reason doTerra oils would not be safe for pets if we dilute them appropriately and use them for the right reasons for the right period of times.

Consumers should always exercise caution when ingesting essential oils and take pet safety seriously when using these products around animals.
