Bioavailability of CBD

  • Topically: none to very little CBD absorbed into the bloodstream; interacts with the first 3 layers of the dermis.
  • Mucosal membranes: quickest (15-30 mins) and most bioavailable way to give CBD (sublingual)
  • GI (food): 30-60 mins to bloodstream; around 85% bioavailability
  • Pinnas: unsure of time to bloodstream; least bioavailability (some say 25-50%)

Remember

If you apply something topically it will address that area with priority.
If you ingest something with food, it has to make it through the digestive system to the area it’s most needed (adding between meals on an empty stomach via a tiny treat may help bypass the digestive process)
If you use sublingually, it is a direct access to the bloodstream and will affect the whole body

So there may be times to use multiple application methods

Essential Oils behave this same way.
