Reducing Toxins In Your Home Environment

Starting a Low-Tox Lifestyle:

It’s one of the best steps you can take for your entire family. But it’s going to be a very strongly encouraged step for everyone facing Allergies, autoimmune, Cancer, And Other Inflammatory Conditions. I say strongly encouraged because I can’t make you do anything – but I can beg you if I have to.

No I cannot guarantee you these changes will resolve every condition. But I can tell you, you will have a much better success rate if you do make these changes.

Start with baby steps if you have to – but take too long. Consider replacement purchasing if you’re not ready to go all in at one time. Meaning, that when a product you currently use runs out, don’t repurchase the same product – instead switch to a safer version of the product. If you are looking for replacement ideas – ask and our community members can help!

Read Every Label. Do a little research before you purchase by looking up ingredients. If you find synthetics, carcinogens, skin irritants, common allergens, etc – put it back on the shelf or remove it from your online cart.

Switching doesn’t have to break the bank – there are great products that may in fact save you money in the long-run. That’s how I feel about my Young Living Products! And I’ll teach you to save money. I have converted every cleaning product in my home to Thieves from Young Living – you can do the same – or you can explore similar options.

And remember it costs nothing to just stop using plug-ins, fabric sprays and dryer sheets.

  • Laundry Soap -- 1 Bottle of Thieves Laundry Soap will make 3 bottles it’s that concentrated.

  • Dryer Sheets – instead use wool dryer balls w/ essential oils or fragrance-free.

  • No natural fragrance will last 12 weeks after laundering. These products are synthetic.

  • No Natural fragrance is in products like Downy Calm - yes they smell good, but again these fragrances are synthetic

  • Did you know that fragrance-free is actually a scent? It’s a chemical compound created to mask any existing smell in the product – it’s not a removal of fragrance, it’s a cover-up of fragrance.

  • Say No to Fabric sprays – make your own with essential oils.

  • Say No to Plug-Ins, Air Fresheners, and the like - shift to diffusing essential oils, or skip the fragrance all together.

  • Say No to Candles containing synthetic fragrances – yes, your Scentsy Wax, Yankee Candle, BB&B, B&BW, gifts from friends, etc all need to go. These fragrances are synthetic. I can assure you no natural fragrance smells like chocolate chip cookies, and we can’t really capture the smell of rain naturally. Are soy candles safer – maybe – but anything that you light on fire and burn in your home has the potential to release carcinogens, formaldehyde, etc. You may think, but it’s such a small amount – it may be more than your pet can tolerate. I’m a reformed candle/wax burner/plug-in user myself – so I get it. But it’s time to stop using them.

*Floor Cleaners – You only need white vinegar for most floors. Don’t use Fabuloso, Pine Sol, Bleac, etc. It’s just not safe. There are reasons many people in these professions struggle with headaches, autoimmune, etc.

All of these products will be absorbed through the pads of your dog’s feet, their exposed belly laying on the furniture/carpet/floor, and their fur and respiratory system. They are likely to be exposed more than you – because you leave the house more often than they do.

*Shampoos – Go natural. Ask your groomer what they use and if it’s got words you don’t understand, look them up. Many are carcinogens and irritants. Consider Animal Scents.
*For you dog mamas and dads – look at your bath and beauty / grooming products. They may not contain safe ingredients, and even though they are applied to you – your dog will be exposed.

  • Say No to Flea and Tick Products – instead use essential oils, Kin and Kind, garlic, Vitamin B, fresh foods, etc as a way to naturally deter. (Did you know most products are not deterrents at all – kill the insect yes – but only after they bite your dog)

  • Grow some weeds! Ok, I know most of you love a lovely yard! But take a hard look at how it’s managed. If you can use natural products, forgo the round-up, reduce the fertilizers, etc – you should. If you must, or your apartment complex controls it, etc – you probably should have your dog on Milk Thistle – at least following these application of these products, and maybe indefinitely at low doses. You may also have to begin doing a foot wash / wipe down after walks through those well-maintained parks and neighborhoods. It’s easy to make a good detox wash (I’ll be adding recipes soon)

  • Manage Pests naturally – Diatemaceous Earth and Cedarwood outside. Peppermint deters spiders! There are many other options, If you’re looking for something specific – ask!

We’ll talk more about vaccines, HW, etc later.

What else would you add here? I’ll update as needed.

when you don’t take my word for it

From Karen Becker
Synthetic aromas are largely made up of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which float through the air, are inhaled, and then enter the bloodstream. These highly popular aromatic liquids are actually chemicals, including lactones, benzene and aldehydes, all of which have been linked to birth defects, central nervous system disorders, neurological disorders, and/or allergic reactions, including eye, skin and respiratory symptoms.

🐾 Our animals often spend their days stuck inside our homes, unable to get away from these airborne pollutants; if your goal is to remove damaging chemicals from your family’s living environment, the first place to start is by unplugging plug-ins.

Ask me about using essential oils to not only make your home smell fantastic, but to gain benefit of purifying the air, calming, improving respiratory symptoms and much more naturally!

Image if you’re exposing your dog (and family) to these harsh cleaning products, and vaccines, and flea and tick, and the environment around your home (traffic, pesticides, etc) - the burden on the body is so high!

Cut back where you can

Consider the Thieves Cleaning products for all needs (very cost effective!). Or go as simple as plain white vinegar to mop your floor.
